Freedom to Move – The Alternative Aarhus Mobility Platform 2025
Transport should create wellbeing, not stress. In this mobility platform for the 2025 local election, The Alternative Aarhus presents a vision for a city where everyone can move freely, safely, and sustainably – whether on foot, by bike, or by public transport.
For decades, Aarhus has prioritised cars at the expense of people, health, and climate. Congestion, pollution, and noise have become everyday problems. The Alternative Aarhus wants to turn that around – making movement easy, affordable, and climate-friendly for all.
The platform focuses on six key areas with clear goals towards 2030:
-
Everything Close By – develop “15-minute neighbourhoods” where daily needs are within walking or cycling distance.
-
Bikes First! – invest 1 billion DKK to make Aarhus Denmark’s leading cycling city, with safe bike streets, school routes, and cargo-bike infrastructure.
-
Affordable Public Transport for All – a 10 DKK daily ticket, frequent bus service every 5 minutes, and better connections between bikes and public transport.
-
Space for Cars in a Car-Free City – fewer cars inside the Ring Road, more shared cars and “park & ride” hubs at the city’s edge.
-
Stop the Major Climate Offenders – phase out fossil fuels, oppose the Marselis Tunnel, Kattegat Bridge, and cruise ships, and push for a fair transition at Aarhus Port and Airport.
-
Freedom, Wellbeing, and Local Democracy – put people, health, and climate before growth and concrete.
Congestion is anti-wellbeing.
Let’s invest in a city where mobility creates freedom, not frustration.
