Closer to the Vegetables – The Alternative Aarhus Food Platform 2025
Food connects us — to each other, to nature, and to the land we live on. In this food platform for the 2025 local election, The Alternative Aarhus presents a vision for a city and a region where local food production, healthy communities, and ecological regeneration go hand in hand.
For decades, industrial agriculture and political neglect have drained the soil, polluted the groundwater, and damaged life in the sea. The Alternative Aarhus wants to reverse that trend and rebuild a resilient, community-based food system rooted in local production, ecological responsibility, and social wellbeing.
The platform outlines six key priorities with concrete actions towards 2030:
-
Shared Food Communities – free healthy school meals and hands-on food education for all children.
-
Regenerative Local Agriculture – new urban and rural food communities, small-scale farms, and support for the next generation of farmers.
-
Restoring the Soil’s Fertility – promote regenerative farming methods and secure local distribution through public procurement.
-
Reviving Life in the Sea – create a marine national park and support regenerative sea gardens with mussels, oysters, and seaweed.
-
Protecting Drinking Water – ban pesticides, expand forest and nature parks, and ensure groundwater self-sufficiency.
-
Creating Local Value and Green Jobs – invest in sustainable food economies, supported by a Regenerative Land Fund and public–private partnerships.
The goal: a fertile, self-sufficient Aarhus — where every meal nourishes people, community, and planet.
