Culture Beats Concrete
– The Alternative Aarhus Cultural Platform 2025
Art and culture are not decoration – they are civic infrastructure. They create meaning, connection, wellbeing, and economic value. In this cultural platform for the 2025 local election, The Alternative Aarhus proposes a clear shift in priorities: investing in what truly sustains life – creativity, community, and culture – rather than concrete.
The vision is to make Aarhus a pioneer city for cultural sustainability, where art and culture are woven into every aspect of urban life – from city planning and education to business and social wellbeing.
The platform is structured around five themes with concrete initiatives towards 2030:
-
A Free and Vibrant Growth Layer – nurturing young artists and experimental culture.
-
Culture as Business and Welfare – recognizing and supporting the cultural sector as a key part of the local economy.
-
Culture in City and Countryside – ensuring equal access to culture across all districts.
-
Art and Aesthetics in Public Space – investing 2% of public construction budgets in art and integrating culture into urban development.
-
Art and Culture as Drivers of Wellbeing and Citizenship – strengthening mental health, community life, and civic engagement through culture.
Culture is community, creativity, and the future identity of Aarhus.
Let’s invest in what brings the city to life.
