The Alternative Aarhus Climate Platform 2025
True wellbeing is impossible without an active climate policy. In this platform for the 2025 local election, The Alternative Aarhus presents a vision for a city that measures progress not by growth, but by how well people and nature thrive together.
Aarhus must take full responsibility for its own footprint — producing its own clean energy, reducing overconsumption, and giving citizens time and space to live good, meaningful lives within planetary limits.
The platform outlines five key priorities with clear actions towards 2030:

Self-Sufficient in Green Energy – local wind turbines, solar panels on every roof, and citizen ownership of renewable energy.

Fossil-Free Aarhus – phasing out fossil fuels, rejecting risky carbon capture projects, and transforming polluting sites into renewable energy hubs.

Time for a Sustainable Everyday Life – introducing a 30-hour work week, promoting repair cafés and sharing communities, and making sustainable living easy and affordable.

From Political Neglect to Green Leadership – integrating climate and wellbeing in all city policies, using Doughnut Economics as a framework for municipal decisions.

Accountability and Fairness – holding fossil fuel giants financially responsible for the climate crisis and banning climate-harmful advertising.
The climate crisis is also a wellbeing crisis.
